The Pilgrims And Provincetown Harbor

 When I was young, I always loved Provincetown Harbor.  To me, it was like the best place there was.  After watching a PBS documentary about the pilgrims, it strikes me how very different their experience with Provincetown Harbor was.  It was a terrible time for the pilgrims.  After their long and difficult journey, it was for most of them, a miserable additional month that they had to continue living on the ship while it was decided by those making land explorations, where their final landing place would be.

There was no way that the pilgrims could have appreciated the beauty to be found in their first landing spot.  It was not yet the developed and inhabited Provincetown and Cape Cod of the future.  Most of them didn’t even get to really see or explore it as it was then.
